“With high delight let us unite

In songs of sweet jubilation.

You pure in heart, each take your part,

Sing Jesus Christ, our salvation.

To set us free forever, He

Is risen and sends to all earth’s ends

Good news to save every nation.”

Easter Sunday celebrates the emergence of Christ from death’s tomb and the budding of the earth’s flowers.  The celebration continues, the flowers grow and the light and glory of the Resurrection warm and embrace our lives!  This month in our worship let us unite and share this joy and peace with lives of “sweet jubilation”.

A Special Highlight of our April Worship:

Sunday, April 27 at 2:00 PM, we will celebrate the Confirmation of this year’s eighth grade students.  These young people have been an exciting class, faithful in their studies and thoughtful in their Witness to the Faith.  The 2:00 PM service will highlight the Affirmation of Baptism made by each of these young adults:

Meredith Atkenson, Kiera Bennett, Bridgette Bova, Michael Burch, Catherine Crofton, Maxx Faulstich, Emily Fierke, Lauren Friel, Kristi Gierman, Alex Gullickson, Mark Hanrahan, Timothy Hennessy, Emma Husar, Matthew Kibort, Kevin Phillip Kling, Matthew Knight, Tyler Kochanny, Kara Majich, Leanne Manning, Cody McDavid, Gina Messineo, Cameron Meyer, Emily Morlock, Nicole Price, George Andrew Quinlan, Kyle Rusco, Hayden Smagacz, Brian Smith, Taylor Smith, Lexi Solofra, Nicholas Svanascini, Randall Swanson, Colter Wehmeier, Taylor Weissenhofer, Sydney Yazbec and Cole Zimba.

Please encourage these young people as full participants in our community of faith.

Easter at Good Shepherd has always provided us with a warm and wonderful expression of Christian Joy, Peace, Hope and Love.  This was especially true this year in our response of praise and worship.  A special word of thanks to all those who worked to make our Holy Week services so meaningful, especially the Sr. Choir in presenting Dubois’ “The Seven Last Words” on Good Friday.  The out pouring of vibrant faith is indeed inspiring.  The task remains:  to bring the joy and enthusiasm of Easter to all of our services.  Share the good news that this beautiful expression of faith might grow!

Many thanks to the Good Shepherd family for countless donations to the “Food Pantry Box” which are given to local food pantries and distributed to persons and families in need.

April’s special request is for juice, powdered milk, canned fruit, soup, tuna and canned meat. Once again, any donation is thankfully received.

REST Cooking is reaching out to those less fortunate!  The next date of REST cooking for the homeless is April 15th at 9:30 AM.

The New Hymnal is coming!  On April 20th, we will begin worshipping with the new hymnal.  While the changes to the service of Holy Communion will be barely noticeable, the new Service of the Word might take a little more adjusting.  Virtually ALL of the great hymns from both LBW and With One Voice are in the new hymnal which means no more going back and forth between books.  The New Hymnal is also rich in additional worship material which will add variety and depth to our worship.  Be patient with the new hymnal as it becomes a blessing in our life together.  As always should you have any questions about the new hymnal or our life together, please do not hesitate to call.

Pastor Basch

A “New Member Orientation” is being planned by Pastor Basch for Tuesday, April 29th at 7:30 PM.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the Good Shepherd family or just interested in reviewing our history,  this evening is for you!  If you could let Pastor know your interest in advance, that would be helpful.  Thank You!

Last Chance!  Reservations for the Bridal Shower for Ron and Pam were due March 30th!  If you would still like to participate on April 13th, please call the church office immediately.

Our Tuesday groups are looking forward to many meaningful discussions of faith in the days and weeks ahead.  The 9:30 AM Prayer Group is discussing “A Disciple’s Joy” by Mike Foss.   The 10:30 AM Class is studying “Luke” and the 4:00 PM group is discussing “Women in the Bible”. We are thankful for the opportunity these groups provide for us to grow in faith and share God’s love with each other, and we invite others to come and join us.

“Discovering the Bible” has grown to become a very close group of fellow seekers enjoying their common bond in Scripture.  They resume their Thursday night gatherings on April 10th at 7:30 PM.  For those who are interested, “Prayer Partners” precedes at 7:00 PM.  New participants are always welcome!

“Body and Soul,” will be taking a break from their usual Monday night schedule on April 7th to watch the NCAA championship game at the Boehlke home.  Everyone is invited and festivities start at the usual time 8:00 PM.  The following week will be “Body and Soul” with basketball only on the April 21st and Soul again on the 28th.  The group has been viewing and discussing the videos by Rob Bell and discussion has been very meaningful.  All men of the congregation are encouraged to share the journey.

The “Spiritual Fitness” home study will be meeting at the church this month on Monday, April 21st at 7:15 PM.  Come and join this friendly group of women who meet on the 3rd Monday of each month.

The “OFF Club” (Over Fifty-Five) invites you to come to our “New Faces Luncheon” on Wednesday, April 16th at 11:00 AM.  Come and meet the new officers for the 2008-2009 term and enjoy good company and good food.  All members who have paid their 2008 dues ($10 for the year) will be served a delicious luncheon of chicken, salad, roll & dessert for only $1, the usual monthly charge for “coffee-and”.  Guests are welcome for $5 per person.  Reservations are necessary.  Please call Marilyn Herrndobler at 708/301-5119 by Friday, April 11th, to make your reservation.  After luncheon, a movie will be shown on the large screen TV while you relax with friends.
