March  2010

Lent is the “springtime” of the church.  Out of darkness of sin’s winter emerges a people – the church – reborn in their Lord’s resurrection.  On the journey of repentance, we are led to Holy Week’s bitter story and ultimately Easter’s fulfilling joy!  These forty days are the first half of a large rainbow which leads us to the fifty days of Easter and the celebration of our rebirth in Christ.

The worship of this month reflects the moods, the passion and the hope of the season.  This year’s mid-week Lenten services are entitled  “By My Hand, For My Sake”, thoughtful presentations by those who had a first hand  experience with our Lord’s passion and how it changed their lives.  Through these services, we will be reminded of our part in the journey to the cross and led to a greater awareness of God’s great love for us.  Services are 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM and the late service will include the “Witness to the Faith” as presented by the members of our eighth grade Confirmation class.

Each Wednesday, the Lenten Evening Service will be preceded by a wonderful fellowship opportunity as our youth and volunteers from the congregation prepare supper for us consisting of soup, salad, and sandwiches.  Supper will be served at 6:15 PM and a free will offering will be received to support this year’s youth Mission Trip to Benton Harbor, MI in June.  If anyone would be willing to donate soup, a salad, or dessert for any of our Lenten Suppers, please sign up on the bulletin board or see Ron.
